I've been noodling on this idea for a few months now, but it's Feb 2024 and I've finally prototyped it.

What if images could be sprinkled directly into strings of text like they were emojis? Then we could contextualize our images into a coherent narrative, rather than images stealing the show from the words, interrupting our reading experience.

This will be a pattern I employ in WeWrite when it launches. Obviously, the controls will be different on WeWrite than in this prototype, since this is just a fun proof-of-concept. As for the proof, everyone I've shown this to has been delighted by it.

I'm also planning on having a pinch-to-zoom interaction on WeWrite which allows you to adjust sizing and spacing, so if you turn on "image only mode" you could arrive at an instagram-like grid view. The image-only mode would behave similarly to most photos apps, particularly Apple Photos with is amazing pinch-to-zoom-out maximum which shows a billion photos all in one view.

This relates to my idea about how all UI should become liquid. This turns content into liquid, which can be reshaped into whatever container (in the case of resizing elements, you could also imagine that the container is getting bigger or smaller, and the content is wrapping accordingly)
